About Babs:

Babs Laff found bellydance, or as she prefers to call it; Middle Eastern Dance, 13 years ago. She and a friend signed up for classes, and while her friend did not continue, Babs was hooked. She began taking lessons in Wheaton, IL with a local teacher, Jawhara. Soon, she moved up into the intermediate/advanced class and shortly after that was asked to be a part of the dance company Anwaar El Sharq.

Babs has performed with Anwaar El Sharq throughout the Midwest at various shows and haflas. She has also danced to raise money for Turkish earthquake victims as well as to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Fund.

In 2001, Babs moved to Normal and after two years she decided to begin teaching Middle Eastern Dance. Her specialties are Egyptian style cabaret, American Cabaret, as well as folk dances of the Middle East and North Africa. Teaching has only made her all the more aware that she is a student of this dance, and hopes to be for the rest of her life.

Her motto is “Raqs min Alb!” which is Arabic for “Dance from the Heart!”
